Are You Guilty of Any of These? 15 ways you could be putting your health at risk unknowingly

Granted, there are certain health risk factors you may not be able to change like your gene or ethnicity but what about lifestyle factors that are within your control?

Here is a quick list of practices whether of omission or commission that many of us are often guilty of but which invariably may be putting our health at risk in the long run if not curtailed.

The solution of course is to place a high value on doing the right and to be disciplined where required.

  1. Not knowing your rights as a patient.
  2. Stopping your prescribed medications abruptly without your doctor’s approval.
  3. Sleeping for less than 7 hours a day.
  4. Eating after 8pm.
  5. Not drinking up to 6-8 cups of water or fluid a day.
  6. Not having regular exercise equivalent to 30 minutes of walking a day.
  7. Constantly sitting for more than 30 minutes at a time.
  8. Not checking for drug interactions.
  9. Not having medical checkups or delaying to see a doctor when symptoms persist.
  10. Relying on health advice from the internet and non-healthcare professionals.
  11. Self-diagnosis and self-medication.
  12. Bottling up, not de-stressing and not building up deep and meaningful connections with close friends and family.
  13. Skipping breakfast.
  14. Consuming unregulated herbal mixtures and drugs.
  15. Not having a health insurance plan or provision to fund medical emergencies.
