The Nigerian health sector witnessed a tremendous leap forward as a health information management company rolled out MyMedicalBank, an innovative digital solution designed to bridge critical gaps in healthcare delivery using Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
The company, Silverwings Medical Informatics Nigeria Limited which operates under the trade name MyMedicalBank, in furtherance of its vision to proffer cost effective and mass affordable solutions to healthcare problems in Nigeria organised its inaugural MyMedicalBank Health Symposium on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
Themed Improving Healthcare Access for Every Nigerian, the symposium held at the prestigious Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. Speakers and delegates from Nigeria and the United Kingdom were on hand to discuss practical solutions to the challenges of healthcare access for the Nigerian populace.
A grasp of the launch
MyMedicalBank also used the occasion of the event to launch Nigeria’s first healthcare digital marketplace, MMB HomeCare. Popularly dubbed the Über of the Nigerian health sector, MMB HomeCare is a secured web-based platform that allows healthcare consumers (patients and non-patients) to book an appointment with healthcare professionals who will come and provide healthcare services to them in their own home or other domestic care settings.
MyMedicalBank HomeCare Launched in Lagos
Also introduced to the public were MMB Community, an online interactive forum that affords users the opportunity to ask registered doctors their health questions; MMB Resources, an online platform comprising a number of articles, news items and research findings designed to empower readers to live a more healthy life and Health Risk Calculators, a number of online tools that allows users to assess their risk of developing certain adverse health conditions prevalent in Nigeria and what they can do to minimise the risk of developing these conditions.
Faces and notable panellists
There were empowering speeches and panel discussions from speakers and panellists offering practical solutions to healthcare challenges in Nigeria. In particular, the speakers commended the effort of the MyMedicalBank team in organising the event while they also took time to talk about the importance of ICT in the health sector.
The speakers who are all leading figures in the Nigeria health space were Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN); Dr. Ola Brown, Founder, Flying Doctors Nigeria and Professor Fola Esan, former Provost, College of Medicine, Ekiti State University and Professor of Haematology, Afe Babalola Ado-Ekiti. Others were Mrs Olufunke Akanle, Registrar, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board and Prof Bode Chris, Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) ably represented by Dr Femi Fasanmade, Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, LUTH.
Interactive sessions
Participants comprised healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and pharmacists as well as health managers from hospitals, HMOs, NGOs and the general public. The participants enjoyed interactive questions and answers sessions to stimulate new ideas. They also had ample networking opportunities for career and business advancement.
Mr Ayo Adebamowo, the Founder and CEO of MyMedicalBank who also doubled as the Convener of the symposium explained that the aim of MyMedicalBank was to improve how Nigerians access quality healthcare delivery. Mr Adebamowo took the audience down the memory lane on how the vision behind MyMedicalBank was birthed three years earlier during the period of his later mother’s ill health.
Key observations
Delegates and journalists at the event were in unison that MyMedicalBank’s vision of providing a secured cloud-based digital platform that can be accessed from any location would give healthcare professionals and healthcare providers an opportunity to manage their patients’ care pathway more effectively. They pointed out that the MMB HomeCare platform will introduce efficiency into the healthcare sector by enabling healthcare professionals to generate additional income and make money in their spare time by utilizing their skills and abilities. It was recognised that MMB HomeCare would transform the healthcare industry in the same way UBER and Taxify have revolutionised the personal transportation (taxi) industry.

The event enjoyed tremendous news media coverage including from such national media organisations as The Nigerian Tribune, ThisDay newspapers, Silverbird Television, TVC News, Concise News, Kaftan Television, Radio Nigeria and City Beats FM Radio among others.
Notable endorsement
The symposium received the endorsement of notable health regulatory bodies in Nigeria including the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the Medical Rehabilitation Therapy (Registration) Board. Also supporting the event were organisations like Cynergy Limited, Lagos; Elta Solutions, Ile-Ife; Studio 14, Birmingham UK; Future Life Resources, Akure and Santa Media Production, Lagos.
Conclusion
The general consensus among participants was that MyMedicalBank and its suite of revolutionising applications had come to stay and that the healthcare sector had been changed for good by its introduction.
In bringing the event to a close, the CEO of MyMedicalBank, Mr Adebamowo took time to introduce other members of the team who had been working tirelessly with him to make the MyMedicalBank’s vision become a reality. The team members were Mr Seun Adewuyi, Dr Ibukun Adebayo, Mr Olawale Esan and Mr Adesola Adebayo. Others were Dr Ayodeji Ogungbemi, Mrs Bunmi Akinremi, Dr Seun Akinbohun-Sado, Mrs Funmi Akinwande, Mr Tope Olubusi, Dr Bimbo Akintomide, Mr Seun Fagesi, Ms Tinu Diji, Mr Lanre Ogunnoiki and Mr Ademola Adeoye.
